Lametta was the first Black female mayor of Iowa, U.S State who was elected in the year 1995 and later appointed to state commissions.
She died on Thursday 25 June 2021 at her home in Nebraska of natural causes, at the age of 87.

The Honorable LaMetta Wynn – far right in photo montage (by Jean Black) below – passed away this week; she served as mayor of Clinton from 1995-2007 (after serving on Clinton’s school board for 12 years) and was the first ever Black woman mayor in Iowa. She transcended politics, and was and will continue to be a role model for Iowa women who want to make a difference in their community and beyond.
