Larry Morse Obituary – Death: Larry Morse II, former Merced County District attorney died in Sacramento on Wednesday of a heart attack. He was 64 years old.
Larry assumed power of the Merced County Attorney’s Office in 2006 and headed the office until early 2019. He obtained the death sentence of Cuitlahuac Tahua “Tao” Rivera for the murder of the police officer in April 2004 Stephan Gray of the Merced Police Department.

Larry joined the California District Attorneys Association as its legislative director after his time as a district attorney. He also acted as chief lobbyist on behalf of elected attorneys in California.
“Very sad news came to the Times just before the presses ran on Wednesday morning. Reports came in that former Merced County District Attorney Larry Morse II died in Sacramento. The 64-year-old longtime prosecutor reported died suddenly of a heart attack this past morning.”
Wow. Larry Morse was the center of my master’s thesis at UC Berkeley. He was a controversial unchallenged DA in Merced who lost his seat following #MeToo allegations. He went from second in line at the state’s DA association to its spokesperson.
