Absolutely devastated to hear about the passing of our friend, Rep. Leonard Mastroni today. He was such a joy to work with & get to know, always so positive & welcoming. He was supportive & helpful with the passing of Claire & Lola’s Law as well. My heart aches for & we send our love to wife, Linda, as well as the rest of his dear family. He was definitely “one of the good ones,” and he will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him
Child and family advocates in Kansas lost a champion yesterday, Representative Leonard Mastroni from LaCrosse. Among many other causes, Representative Mastroni was a fierce and persistent advocate for child abuse and foster care prevention, and mental health services for children and youth. He was instrumental in Kansas being one of the first states to implement the Family First Prevention Services Act — he was a tireless leader in behind the scenes work to make sure the bill and appropriations passed. He was also a dedicated champion pushing Kansas to improve youth access to psychiatric care. Representative Mastroni was unwaveringly diplomatic, and at the same time, an influential force for improved services for Kansas children and families. We will miss working together with him, and we are so grateful for his service. We extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends.
Our state lost a great public servant. Representative Leonard Mastroni of LaCrosse was a great man, a strong advocate of Western Kansas values, and a friend to so many. Please keep the Mastroni family in your thoughts and prayers.
The state lost a great leader and public servant today and I lost a close friend of 40 years. Leonard Mastroni served as a law enforcement officer in Denver, the supervising officer of the Central Kansas Drug Task Force, Judge of our District Courts, County Commissioner and State Representative. While I have a number of pictures of Leonard over the years, this is how I will always remember my friend. A big warm smile and just a little bit of humor. If you read the words on his hat, it says: “Take the law into your own hands. Hug a judge.” I remember the day when he purchased that hat at the National Judicial College in Reno so many years ago.
Rest peacefully my friend.
We will miss our colleague Rep. Leonard Mastroni! I’m so sad to hear of his passing. 💔 His judicial background gave him a unique perspective to advocate for children in KS Foster Care. RIP. #ksleg #oneofthegoodones
