Lou Henson, coach of maybe the greatest college basketball team ever, the “Flying Illini” passed away. I bumped into his daughter a couple years ago outside of Bub’s which was weird. And I reminded her how cool it was to be kicked out of her house by her dad.

Coach Lou Henson was one of my mentors. Signed one of my players Jens Kujawa of Taylorville HS. I also worked his basketball camp every summer for over ten straight years. Not only was he a TREMENDOUS basketball coach, his family and friends meant everything to him. RIP Coach.

Saddened to see reports that former New Mexico State and Illinois basketball coach Lou Henson has died at 88. I had a chance to deal with him at both those schools, and he always was a class act. He’s among 15 coaches to have taken two different schools to a Final Four.
