9-year-old Makiia’s teachers describe her as a “precious gem with the brightest smile.”
Deputies say she and her mother Shatory Slade were driving down US-17 on Friday when they were shot. Mom is recovering, but Makiaa died from her injuries.
No arrests have been made.
