I first met Marvyn Roy when I was just 20 years old. He was one of the great acts that I looked up to and admired. He was so kind and encouraging to young magicians and to me in particular. This is a sad day. We will miss you Marvyn. Well done Sir. Rest In Peace.

Magic legend Marvyn Roy, aka “Mr. Electric,” passed away last night. He had suffered a stroke a very short time ago and was not recovering well, so this news did not come as a shock, but it certainly does not soften the blow.Marvyn was such a kind, gentle, and generous soul and was always eager to encourage, give advice, and inspire other magicians. And his advice was abundant after years of traveling the world with his adoring wife and assistant Carol. Having presented his dynamic stage act in places like the Lido in Paris, Radio City Music Hall, and his appearances on the Ed Sullivan Show—well, if you didn’t glean some piece of valuable information from a conversation with Marvyn, then you just weren’t listening.
In the latter part of 2007, I had the pleasure of spending the day with Marvyn and Carol at their home in Palm Springs to interview them for a cover story on them for the magic trade journal Genii Magazine. Carol was ill at the time and passed away two years later, but the two of them could not have been more gracious during my visit. The enormous love they had for one another and for the art of magic, or “Lady Magic” as Marvyn would constantly refer to it, was ever-present during my stay. In the years that followed, we were always happy to see one another whenever we crossed paths at a convention or show, and he would always greet me warmly and genuinely.
At the end of Marvyn’s 2005 book chronicling his life, “Mr. Electric Unplugged,” he writes about the last time he and Carol performed the act, culminating with him magically illuminating a 1,000 watt light bulb in his hand: “For an instant, the sphere radiated the old theatre with its iridescent brilliance and then—‘Out!’ And it would light no more.”
Your light may be out, Marvyn, but your iridescent brilliance lives on for the rest of us here who are still involved in this love affair with “Lady Magic.”
RIP, and please say “hi” to Carol for me.

So saddened to hear of the passing of one of the greats of magic – Marvyn Roy. In his day, his Mr Electric act was legendary and played in top cabaret & theatres around the world. As a close family friend I was named after him and he became my Godfather. RIP my friend 1925-2020.

Mr. Oliver sadly notes the passing of one of the greatest cabaret acts, one of the greatest magicians, and one of the finest human beings that the conjuring arts have ever known. Marvyn Roy, along with his marvelous – and essential – wife Carol, was known as “Mr. Electric” (find him on YouTube to understand why) and his light will shine on forever. #mrelectric #marvynroy #magic #montecarlo #marvynsmagictheater
Sad to hear that magician Marvyn Roy “Mr Electric” has passed away. He was the act that made me want to be a pro magician. He travelled the world for 50 years, from glitzy nightclubs to Vegas. My favourite “act”. Lovely man. Immaculate showmanship:

As husband and wife magic teams go, during our lifetime, Marvyn & Carol Roy reigned as King and Queen. They were magic superstars. If you grew up in the 70’s, you probably saw them perform their Mr. Electric act on TV. Carol Roy passed away on May 2, 2009. Sadly, Marvyn Roy passed away today, July 1, 2020. He was 95 years old.The first time we met Marvyn and Carol was in March, 1999 when we worked together at the World Magic Seminar in Las Vegas. After the show they were so kind and friendly to us. The advice and insight they shared backstage was priceless.
The last time we saw Marvyn was earlier this year at Marvyn’s Magic Theater in March, 2020. He sat front row as we performed in the theater named after him. We remember how his smile and enthusiasm uplifted us during the show. Afterwards he stayed around to chat and reminisce about his incredible show business career. Those rare encounters are pure gold – priceless moments that we will never forget.
The old saying “you should never meet your heroes” sure didn’t apply to Marvyn & Carol Roy. You couldn’t hope for them to be any more giving and cordial. What an honor and privilege it was to spend time in their company. We are better off as performers, and as a couple, for having met them.
It feels good to imagine Marvyn & Carol are together again, creating their magic and energy in some other dimension. We’ll think of them performing their Mr. Electric act during the next thunderstorm. RIP Marvyn.
