And in 1993 (22 years before #MarRef), during debates on decriminalization of homosexuality, Mervyn Taylor said: “What could be more important for us as legislators than to create a climate and space where two people who have chosen each other can express their love.” RIP.

Sorry to hear that Mervyn Taylor has died. Mervyn was an able councillor who stood against the chicanery that Mahon exposed at this tribunal. Without Mervyn, the #divref in 1995 would not have passed. @labour May he rest in the arms of #Abraham.

Very sad to hear of the passing of Mervyn Taylor: an absolute gentleman who did the Irish state a great deal of service. Sincere sympathy to Mrs Taylor (my school librarian and reading mentor), Gideon and the entire family. May his memory be a blessing.

Saddened at this. Through his role as a minister Mervyn Taylor transformed the lives of so many people in Ireland particularly women through his work on divorce & minorities (e.g. ethnic, religious travellers, lgbt, people with disabilities) through equality legislation.
