Tributes To Michelle Wallace

Across social media users’ timelines are statements that show respect, admiration, and gratitude towards Wallace as people mourn the passing.

It is with very heavy hearts that we want to announce the death of our beloved employee Michelle Davey Wallace. Michelle’s father was one of the original founding members of what we know as Lake Region IGA today. Michelle passed away at 54 years old, very unexpectedly from severe underlying health issues with hernias and complications from covid. She was a loyal 26-year employee most recently working as our Scan Coordinator.
When we were alerted of her passing by her family, all of IGA was inconsolable, some unable to complete our daily tasks, some just staring at the walls as we tried to comprehend why our friend Michelle was taken from us. She has left behind a loving daughter and son-in-law, a beautiful mother, two grandsons who are too young to comprehend the depth of loss that just happened, and a loving husband whose whole life revolved around each other. A husband’s love who you only read about in the story books.
She also leaves behind three dogs who cherished the ground she walked on as some of them she saved from the brink of death when she rescued them from the abusive situations that they were in. Michelle was passionate about rescuing dogs, spending time with her family, friends, and she loved sunflowers. As you’ll see from the pictures she loved painting. We do not want Michelle’s death to go down as a statistic. She is worth more than that to us. We want her legacy to be known, her beauty to be bestowed upon the people she knew and did not know. Therefore, at this point, we must also address the other covid cases at our store. There have been 13 total cases at our store over the course of the past month, 4 of which are returned to work. Two with serious underlying health conditions which cost Michelle her life. The vaccinated employees that got covid had little to no symptoms. 90% of our positive cases were unvaccinated. Please know that as a company we have been doing the same thing we have done since the beginning of the pandemic back in March of 2020. The bathrooms get bleached downed three times per day. The common surfaces are wiped down with bleach throughout the day and thoroughly at night. Included commonly touched surfaces, carts, frozen food door handles, etc. Employees are encouraged but not forced to get vaccinated here as we believe in free will. We hope that you will morn Michelle’s death with us and know that we are doing everything in our power to keep our employees, and our customers safe. RIP Michelle Wallace. We will love you forever and your name will not be a statistic. You will be honored at Lake Region IGA in your office forever. Sympathy cards for the family can be dropped off at the service desk.
