Myra Tobin The most generous woman I know left this world today to join my grandparents in heaven. Aunt Myra Tobin was truly a one of kind. She was so smart, so successful, had a method of her own on everything she did, loved her family, loved UK, and loved the Lord.
Anyone that grew up with Lisa Keeton Randle, Kara Clay or I knew her and called her Aunt Myra. All of our friends wanted to have an Aunt Myra We were the LUCKY ones!
God gave us Aunt Myra! Aunt Myra was the inventor of Preference Day, orchestrated the Tobin family Christmas where someone was always “on deck”, she sponsored the Tobin Incentive Plan, and she literally gave me the world. Growing up my sisters and I along with my cousin Amy would always take a summer trip. She always believed you could learn more experiencing something for yourself than you could from a book in school.
I have seen and done things I would have never been able to experience if it were not for her. My pictures are from one of my greatest experiences. Aunt Myra took me to Australia in Sept 2000 for the Olympics. I was her Olympics traveling partner. She knew I loved the Olympics and had always wanted to go to Australia. I remember the night she called my moms house and asked if I could go!! As I became a teacher and took two groups of seniors to NYC I told her I was sharing with “my kids” the gifts she had given me. I planned and booked every aspect of the trips. I was the tour company, tour director, and money keeper! I was giving my kids the opportunity to see the world. She even joined us one night for dinner!! Because of her I was able to share what I learned with my kids who now have those memories. Aunt Myra was always so good to me!!! Sometimes her stubbornness and demand to do it her way drove me insane, but in all fairness I drove her equally crazy at times as well. Aunt Myra has mentored kids in Brooklyn and Queens, provided scholarships to great Breckinridge Co kids, supported her church and any church she ever entered . She gave and gave and gave in more ways than I will ever know.
When my Carolina was born she made sure the UK hospital knew to take care of her “Little Fight” as she called her. She let them all know that was not just any preemie in there in the NICU. She gave me the world. Now, she can rest! I know God was ready for her!! Good Luck with her. She likes do to do it her way! Yes, I was the LUCKY one!!
