Jim Myers Death: Jim Myers, beloved coach of Notre Dame High School girls basketball team passed away on Friday night, November 26, 2021, after battling with a rare form of cancer of seven years. Leaving behind his family, friends, and his players in grief.
In 2014, he helped the Nikes win the Class 1A state championship, he coached the Nikes to over 100 wins in his tenure there. He produced winning teams at Burlington High School, Southeastern Community College, and Notre Dame. Without their beloved coach, the Nikes came together for their first game. After a slow start, Class 1A’s seventh-ranked Notre Dame pulled together for a 62-32 victory over Albia at Father Minett Gymnasium, an emotional win which they dedicated to their coach, Jim Myers. It has been a rough weekend for the team since the passing of Myers.
A Twitter user Sad Isn’t It. @Astott tweeted that he is not a fan of the newspaper anymore but a fan of Jim Myers which he has known for 20+ years and watched his kids grow up. “I’m not a fan of our newspaper anymore, but I’m a fan of Jim Myers. I’ve known him for 20+ years and watched his kids grow up.” He described him as an influence on a lot off lives outside basketball. He said Burlington lost a great man. “An influence on a lot of lives outside of basketball. Burlington lost a great man.”
