Leonid Bartenyev Death – Cause of Death – Olympic athlete Leonid Bartenyev sadly died at the age of 88 on the 17th of November 2021. Leonid Vladimirovich Bartenyev was a Soviet athlete who competed mainly in the 100 metres. He was born October 10, 1933, in Poltava, Ukraine. He trained at Burevestnik in Kiev.
According to Wikipedia, Bartenyev competed for the USSR in the 1956 Summer Olympics held in Melbourne in the 4 x 100 metre relay. He won the silver medal with his teammates Boris Tokarev, Yuriy Konovalov, and Vladimir Sukharev. After four years, Bartenyev teamed up with Yuriy Konovalov again in the 1960 Summer Olympics held in Rome in the 4 x 100 metre relay where they won their second silver medals with new teammates Gusman Kosanov and Edvin Ozolin.
In 1954-1958, Leonid Bartenyev also competed in Euro Athletics in the 4 x 100 metre relay where he came out 3rd place. His soviet records were PBs 10.2 (1960) 20.9 (1957). He was the Soviet sprint national coach from 1964-1984. Lastly, he coached female sprinters incl Olympic champion Irina Nazarova (4×4 1980). He will be missed.
