RIP Pat. I will never forget how pleasantly surprised I was when you told me you enjoyed reading my humble writings on trade. I was so awed that a veteran journalist like yourself took an interest in my work. I will never forget your encouragement!

It is with great sadness that we mourn the loss of our colleague and friend Pat Hoyos.
Pat was a veteran journalist and host of the Business News on @y103fm
He was also best known for his publications, the Broad Street Journal and the Who’s Who’s business directory.
Pat was a pillar in the media, particularly the business community.
We extend our sincerest condolences to his wife Sophie, children Fredrick, Amanda and Jerome, brothers Doc, Greg, Dexter and Tony, his grandchildren and all those who mourn with us. #RIP

The media fraternity is in mourning following the death of publisher and journalist, Patrick Hoyos.

Hoyos, affectionately known as Pat, passed away this morning after losing his battle with cancer.

His family made the announcement of his death in a post on social media.

His son, in a post on Facebook says they have lost a patriarch and Barbados, a great son.

Pat Hoyos’ name is synonymous with business news and the Broad Street Journal.

Hoyos leaves to mourn his wife Sophie, children Frederic, Mandy and Jerome and four brothers.

I am so heartbroken to learn of the passing of my friend from boyhood days Pat Hoyos, we were friends forever.
Our families were close from childhood days, my mum Muriel and Pat’s parents were close from the days when the Hoyos family lived on George street and Ben his dad and my stepdad played cricket at YMPC.
Pat was one of my biggest fans and supporters in my early days as a broadcaster at CBC, it was a mutual admiration society as I always supported and played the music of the Brothers band, I may have contributed singlehandedly to the then popularity of the song “we’re not friends anymore, we’re lovers!”
Together he and I created and gave life and vibrancy to the MAB, the Media Association of Barbados, I was President and he Vice President and while we lead it,the MAB had purpose.
Sir Fred Gollop, then my chairman had done all the legal work pro bono to ensure that our legal structure was flawless.
As a journalist that Pat found his true calling, fearless and laser focused, he staked out his position and supported it with clinical analysis.
His wife was biting and entertaining, a must read for the weekend.
He created Barbados first independent Business Newspaper, the Barbados Business Authority, again laser focused on business analysis, it was required reading in every boardroom.
As a political columnist I was always struck by the clarity of his grasp of complex financial matters and his biting critiques of the issues of the day.
The fourth estate was well represented by Pat Hoyos, for me he stood head and shoulders above all.
He was ahead of his time.
You couldn’t want a nicer human being, a family man to the core, loving and caring, nothing for him came before family. He lovex his children and supreme grandad was his new calling.
We were about to launch “The Capital Business News radio show with Pat Hoyos” and despite his illness he was confident that we would have been rolling this week, I have the demo show which I will keep and treasure as a reminder of my great friend and long time fan.
Pat, to paraphrase one of your lines
“We’re friends forevermore, we’re also brothers!”
Rest In Peace and rise in glory!

We are still working on getting more details about the death, as family statement on the death is yet to be released.
