Dear Friends and Classmates of MHS,
I have just learned of the passing of Paul Abare, Class of 1969, and Friend to All. Paul was an immense presence and contributor to the City of Malden in many ways, so I wanted to post this for all to see and share. More information will be available.

I can’t and do not want to believe this. Paul has been friend through Jr High, HS, College and our group continued after with parties and events. My condolences to his wife and my friend, Mary, his daughters and grandchildren.
Our friends and classmates, as you know, we have loss a very dear person. I’m shocked and broken.
God bless Paul and us all, too much to bear.

Two of the nicest guys to ever come out of the Malden High school class of 1969, Joe Mercuri and Paul Abare have succumbed within weeks of each other, purportedly from heart attacks. May they both rest in peace. Two years ago I also had a major heart attack, but luckily survived it, and had major surgery to fix it. This was shocking because 6 months earlier I had undergone a nuclear stress test and echo cardiogram twice. Once by my cardiologist, and once by my kidney transplant center. Both told me I was fit as fiddle. Six months later my son found me passed out on the living room floor from a heart attack. At the hospital I was found to have 3 occluded arteries and two bad valves. The moral of this story is, if you suspect you have any heart issues, get admitted to a hospital, and have them run tests such as an angiogram there, because as in my case, the regular diagnostics offices run might not be telling you what you need to know

My good friend passed away. Paul Abare welcomed me into the field of education in the early 90s with open arms. He was a gentle soul who every educator , especially me, strived to be. He was an amazing administrator who lead by example. His guidance helped me on many occasions. He guided me in life as well, watching him as a beloved husband and an amazing father and eventually a grandfather. I’ll miss his funny stories, his gentle ways , and especially his friendship. God bless Mr.Abare , you have touched so many lives, your presence was legendary.

For my Malden, Mass friends.
We just lost a great guy, named Paul Abare . He was my teammate at Beebe JH, Malden HS, and on many rec league teams. We played for Coach Jack Schlegel. We hooped at Amerige Park. And we had Richie Byrnes as a teamm

For the first time in a VERY long time I am speechless. Paul Abare! This ain’t right. Rest In Peace my friend. On a side note, Paul made my list of top 100 basketball players in Malden from the past 50 years that I wrote about a couple years back . He MAY have been the best. Love ya Paul.

We are still working on getting more details about the death, as family statement on the death is yet to be released.
