We mourn our author Ralf Gantzhorn.A friend gave us the bad news today that Ralf died yesterday while climbing in Switzerland. We are horrified and speechless. Ralf was an experienced mountain climber and climber. He wrote several great books for the Rother Bergverlag, gifted us with unique pictures – and he was a great friend of the publishing house and every single one of us. Our deepest condolences are given to his relatives and his three children
We mourn our friend and colleague Ralf Gantzhorn, who fatally crashed yesterday while climbing in the Swiss climbing area Cheselenflue above the Stöckalp.
Gantzhorn was a climber and alpinist and regularly active as an author and photographer for the mountain climber.
RIP Ralf!
So sad to hear about the passing of Ralf Gantzhorn a climber, photographer and geologist from Hamburg, Germany, who died in a rappelling accident. He was 56.
.
Ralf devoted two decades to climbing and photographing far flung corners of Patagonia, from Monte Sarmiento, to San Lorenzo, by way of more popular places like Torres del Paine and the Chalten Massif. He published two books about the area, a large, beautiful photo book, and a trekking guidebook. In all he published ten books about mountaineering and climbing, covering the Alps and Scotland, and also published countless articles in magazines and newspapers.
.
Recently he had written a personal note expressing excitement about changes in his personal life that allowed him more flexibility and ability to travel. He is survived by his two sons and daughter.
.
He was tireless, he was always keen, and carried himself with optimism. He will be sorely missed. So long Ralf.Ralf Gantzhorn

Live is a journey and the journey of my friend and expedition partner @ralfgantzhorn has come to an end. For me it feels strange to say goodbye by means of the social media but here is my goodbye!
The #montesarmiento was very special to you Ralf and together with @jornheller
we had a great time on our expedition in 2010 when we achieved the ascent of the west summit despite the severe weather conditions which are tippical for #Patagonia. For the coming year we had plans for a nother expedition together – I will have you in my heart when we climb again in Patagonia! Thanks for being you, with your love for adventure and nature and your eye for amazing pictures!
To the family of Ralf and to his children I send my deepest sympathy!
