We are saddened greatly by the passing of our friend and mentor Dr Rosalyn Ing. Our thoughts are with her family at this time. She was an inspiration to us all. As an Elder of the Opaskwayak Cree Nation she empowered us to work towards cultural respect and reconciliation.

My mother Dr. Rosalyn Ing died last night, after suffering a series of strokes. She died peacefully, surrounded by my father, and her granddaughters Nimkish, and Aisha, at Vancouver General Hospital around 1:00 am.
In this picture, she is wearing her Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, of which she was very proud. My mum was a Cree Elder, the matriarch of our family, an inspiration to many, respected by all who knew her, and one of the most wonderful humans on Earth; powerful and strong, full of grace, compassion and love.
I honour my mother’s life, I give thanks and gratitude for her love, for her support, her teachings, her sacrifices, her guidance. I love you very much, mum. Thank you for everything.
Our family is not clear about arrangements yet. Because of Corona, there won’t be a traditional funeral. My dad will see that she is cremated in four days. A Sacred Fire has been lit, and we will do our best to follow our traditions adapted to the current world situation. We will hold a memorial service when it is possible.
We are still working on getting more details about the death, as family statement on the death is yet to be released.
