Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Thursday, flags of the the new national taxpayers identification number in the Southwest region of Nigeria.
While speaking on the new development, Sanwo-Olu revealed that Lagos has been able to withstand the global economic meltdown due to its non-dependence on federal government allocation due to an effective tax drive.
He took to Instagram to share the below message and some pictures from the TIN flag off event.
Lagos state’s non over dependence on federal allocations due to an effective tax drive is what has sustained us and made us relatively immune to the effect of decline in revenue, caused by the 2014 global crude oil price crash, while many states were not so lucky.
Therefore, to further sustain and improve revenue generation, we need to pursue efficient tax compliance among citizens. And citizens in turn will have a right to hold their government accountable and demand a higher quality of governance and service.Today, I officially flagged off the new National Taxpayers Identification Number (TIN) registration system and consolidated national taxpayers database in the southwest region.
