Scott Lilienfeld Death – Dead: A great loss was made known to InsideEko. As friends and families of the deceased are mourning the passing of their loved and cherished Scott Lilienfeld.
Terribly saddened that Scott Lilienfeld, a giant in psychological science, passed away. He was well-known for his work on personality disorders, but it was his commitment to skepticism and scientific psychology that so profoundly impacted me and my career.
I’m very grateful to have had a brief exchange with him a week ago and was able to communicate my profound gratitude for him and his work. My thoughts and sympathies are with his family.
A tragic, early loss of one of the most brilliant and influential psychological scientists of all time, of a wonderfully supportive colleague and friend, one who helped us all think more deeply and critically about everything. Scott, you have been a consistent inspiration and beacon of light for our field, for science, and for humanity, even during these darkest of times. You bravely and heroically dedicated your life to intellectual humility, to exploring and challenging our biases and assumptions, and to the pursuit and generous sharing of knowledge, even while in excruciating pain in recent years, and even into your final days. You will be supremely missed and never forgotten.

Learning of the passing of Scott Lilienfeld has been such a gut punch. His writing inspired me in so many ways, his works were truly must reads. He was also so generous with his time and willingness to help anyone. What a truly huge and devastating loss.

I am very sad to hear that Scott Lilienfeld has passed away. His tireless championing of science in the field of clinical psychology, has been a huge source of inspiration to me since graduate school. The field has lost a true giant. My deepest sympathies to his family.

This is a pretty ordinary email. But as a 1st year grad student who was very stressed about cold-emailing faculty, this meant so much to me, especially coming from someone as well-regarded as Scott Lilienfeld. I still use it as a reminder of how far just a little kindness can go.

I hear Scott Lilienfeld passed away. I did not know him, but I did read his paper on microaggressions research, which is a great example of critical scholarship in the best sense of the word.

Was always a big fan of his work, and reached out to him out of the blue a few years ago asking if he would co-author an ethics/psychotherapy paper. Could easily have turned me down but he didn’t. Generous, encouraging, and giant of a scholar.

Scott Lilienfeld was one of the very first psychologists I ever contacted, as a 3-month-in Masters student brand new to the field. He gave me some courteous and helpful advice, which encouraged me to ask others. RIP.

Having heard about this great loss, the family of this individual is passing through pains, mourning the unexpected passing of their beloved.
This departure was confirmed through social media posts made by Twitter users who pour out tributes, and condolences to the family of the deceased.
We are still working on getting more details about the death, as a family statement on the death is yet to be released.
