It’s very sad to learn of the recent passing of Starlett Russell Craig. Starlett was a very nice person with whom I would visit and talk to from time to time over the years at various Clemson Area African-American Museum (CAAAM) events. As an armature photographer, I would take many pictures during various events in and around the Clemson area.
This 1st picture I took of Starlett was taken on April 28, 2018 at the Greater Clemson Music Festival’s event, “The Swingin’ Medallions.”
The 2nd picture I took of her was taken later that year on November 18th at a monthly meeting of the CAAAM Board of Directors.
I’m not sure of her age when she passed but someone said she was in her mid 70s. The pictures of her suggest . . . I believe that she was in her mid 50s. She’ now resting in peace.

This wonderful women was the reason I attended Clemson University. The Clemson Career Workshop help recruit many African Americans and it helped us to bond with the minority students there. Many of us that attended CCW came to Clemson and were roommates, classmates and even fraternity brothers and sorority sisters.

It is with great sorrow that I inform of the passing of Starlett Russell Craig. Arrangements are incomplete at this time. I will post once they have been finalized. As many of you know, Starlett was the Director of Academic Outreach at Clemson University and at the time of her retirement, Craig was the Director of Academic Excellence for Clemson’s Houston Center. During her tenure at Clemson Starlett implemented the SAT Boot Camp and the Career Workshop. These two programs prepared African American high school juniors and seniors for entrance into college and was a great pathway for many participants to matriculate at Clemson University. A graduate of Spelman and an over 50 plus year member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Starlett was active in her church, community and especially the Clemson Area African American Museum during her retirement.

More details have not been released about this death, and actual death age and date are yet to confirmed by us. We are still working on getting more details about the death, as family statement on the death is yet to be released.
