Sydney Therriault was an alum, a classroom assistant, and a frequent visitor to campus who brought joy to everyone who connected with her. Her family has been deeply involved over the past 15 years in the Butler Montessori community. There are many in our community who have felt the warmth of Sydney’s smile and we will be processing our hurt and missing her for a long time.
Sydney Therriault 22, A young woman’s visit to the Florida Keys ended tragically this month after she got stuck in the window of her hotel room, authorities said.
The Maryland tourist, identified as 22-year-old Sydney Therriault, was found dead on March 19 at the Pelican RV Resort & Marina in Grassy Key, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
A preliminary investigation suggests the woman had locked herself out of the room and was getting back inside by climbing through a window, according to the release.
Therriault apparently became stuck and asphyxiated.
Deputies and firefighters were called to the hotel and pronounced her dead at the scene.
Authorities said there was no evidence of foul play, but an autopsy is pending.
The victim’s friends described her on social media as someone who enjoyed traveling and was loved my many.
“Rest in paradise to a beautiful, selfless, free spirited soul… You will never be forgotten since you touched so many,” Megan Harney said in a Facebook post.
“To my best friend who I lost way too soon. I am so thankful for every second I ever spent with you,” Sarah Tivoli wrote on Instagram. “Thank you for giving me a backbone, driving with me across the country, and hash browns.”
