A 16-year-old teenager has been hospitalized following an officer-involved shooting in Albuquerque. Officers had responded to shots fired report at an apartment complex on the West Side of the city.

Officials with the Albuquerque responded to an apartment complex near Coors Boulevard and Quail Road Thursday morning. Investigators determined that the 16-year-old teen was suspected of firing shots had a felony warrant for violent crime and was armed with multiple firearms. The teen had locked himself in one of the apartments before trying to run away from officers. “The individual chose to open the door, exit the apartment complex, and tried to flee the apartment armed with multiple firearms.

According to APD Police Chief Harold Medina, detectives are working to know if the suspect fired any shots at officers, although no responding officer sustained any gunshot injuries following the incident. The teenager was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
