Islam was based on the values of freedom, justice, equality, and humanity, and made the basis of the relationship between human beings based on brotherhood, according to the words of Imam Ali, peace be upon him: “People are of two types, either your brother in religion or your equal in humanity.” Islam did not accept the relationship of domination, injustice, and contempt for the other, whatever it may be. Rather, he commanded benevolence, righteousness, and justice for all human beings, and regulated relations in situations of war and peace so that there would be no transgressions and the preservation of lives and innocents. To them, God loves those who are just. God only forbids you on behalf of those who fought you because of religion and expelled you from your homes and supported your expulsion, that you befriend them, and whoever befriends them, those are the wrongdoers.” He also left non-Muslims the freedom of belief and not forcing them to enter Islam.
There is a lot of talk about mistreatment of non-Muslims in Islam as a result of the wrong behavior of some "Islamic" groups that have worked for decades to distort the image of Islam, but the truth that no one can hide is the evidence that leaves no doubt that Islam is a religion of justice and comprehensive moral values. For all human beings, and by referring to the Noble Qur’an and the noble hadiths of the Prophet, it becomes clear to all that Islam built relations between Muslims and non-Muslims on a fixed constitution whose basis does not change. :
1. The relationship is built on the basis, you have your religion and I have mine.
2. Based on pacifism, not Islam.
3. We are at peace with those who are at peace with us, and we are hostile to those who are against us.
4. Fair and balanced moral and humane discipline in dealing.
Surah Al-Kafiroon affirms the principle of “You have your religion and I have my religion.” The Qur’an also affirms that non-Muslims should not be forced to convert to Islam in its saying: “There is no compulsion in religion. Non-Muslims, but war is urgent in the relationship if there are direct or indirect attacks on Muslims, and it is also important to treat non-Muslims with the utmost morality and justice, and we set an example of the justice of Islam in the behavior and morals of Imam Ali bin Abi Talib, who lost his favorite shield And he found it in the hands of a Jew who had offered it in the market wanting to sell it, and when he saw it he knew it, and he said to the Jew: This is my armor that had fallen from a camel of mine in such and such a place, so the Jew denied him what he said, and asked that a Muslim judge rule between them, so he accepted Ali, and when they became with a judge Muslims, and Shuraih, may God have mercy on him, was at that time. Shuraih said to Ali: I do not doubt that you are truthful, O Commander of the Faithful, but you must have two witnesses who testify with you that it is your shield, so Ali wanted Qanbar and his son Al-Hassan to testify for him. Judge Shuraih answered him that the testimony of a child is not permissible for his father, so Ali said: O Glory be to God! A man from the people of Paradise whose testimony is not permissible? Didn’t I hear the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, say: “Al-Hassan and Al-Hussein are the two masters of the youth of the people of Paradise.” However, Judge Shureh insisted on his position that it is not permissible for a child to testify to his father. Then Ali turned to the Jew and said to him: Take it; Because I do not have two other witnesses, so the Jew was amazed at the situation. And he said to Ali: I bear witness that it is your shield, O Commander of the Faithful. Then he said in astonishment: The Commander of the Faithful is suing me before his judge, and his judge is ruling for me against him! I bear witness that there is no god but God and that Muhammad is the Messenger of God. By truth and the acceptance of the Commander of the Faithful and his submission to the judge’s judgment without objection is a reason for the Jew to convert to Islam.
Muslims and non-Muslims in many countries have become living side by side, and there is no doubt that each of them has its beliefs, cultures, and orientations, but the most important thing is how to coexist peacefully between them without confrontation or clashes that would affect the security and stability of the country in which they live, so the spirit of belonging To the homeland is one of the most important elements that protect Muslims and non-Muslims alike to live in peace and without any skirmishes that may occur because of religious affiliation, and the Al-Madina newspaper charter confirmed this in one of its articles by saying that the Jews of Bani Awf are a nation with believers.
Also, by returning to the historical document, it becomes clear that all citizens are treated on an equal footing, regardless of their faith. Indeed, there is no room for talking about dividing citizens into citizens of the first, second, and third degrees. Rather, they are equal in rights and duties, and this is what the Muslim World League confirmed through the Makkah Al-Mukarramah Document Which emphasized the need to spread awareness of the values of true citizenship, and to perpetuate a culture of tolerance and peaceful coexistence between Islamic and non-Islamic societies.
