The greatest gift we can give to humanity or posterity is the gift of ourself, the gift of blossoming our best, the gift of leaving a heritage for posterity, a heritage born from the wealth of our ideals principles and cherished virtues.
The gift of influencing and leading humanity from our greatness. Our greatness that comes from doing our best, being our best and knowing the future will be better because we live.
Each of us as incarnate beings have a role to play in the great scheme called life, though the depth of our impact is dependent on how willing each person is, the willingness to be the salt of the world or the poison gas.

When individuals maximise themselves as gift to humanity, then their salt purities society whether by a garden patch, a well behaved child or a redeemed social malady. But when individuals live for themselves alone then they may unknowingly become the gas that poisons an entire society.
