Clayesmore Prep – Giving children the best start in life.
Every girl and boy achieves academic success at Clayesmore Prep by working at a level that suits, but also stretches, their capabilities.
With the luxury of small classes, children benefit from plenty of individual attention whilst enjoying a broad, balanced and engaging curriculum.
There is a strong academic core ensuring progression throughout the prep school, underpinned by our school’s innovative approach to attitudes to learning. Children follow an adapted national curriculum with a strong emphasis on the monitoring of pupil progress and attainment in all subjects. The Common Entrance syllabus is followed for our Year 7 and 8 pupils in English, maths and science.
Giving children a school life that is happy and harmonious is our goal, however we are realistic enough to know that this may not always be the case for every child, all the time. Clayesmore Prep is well known and admired for our pastoral care and support. We recognise that children can go through ups and downs with friends, school work, home life and simply just the trials and tribulations of growing up. We have a huge amount of experience, gained over many years, to be able to support children in every challenge they may face.

Clayesmore Senior School
Clayesmore is often regarded as a warm school with a family feel but the caring pastoral approach does not compromise academic rigour and the belief that all pupils should be stretched to achieve beyond their own expectations. All pupils are valued from the day they join and live and grow in a friendly, genuinely open and tolerant atmosphere..
This top senior school is a ‘home away from home’ for boarding pupils. Comprising three boys’ Houses and two girls’ Houses the atmosphere is warm and supportive. The ‘family’ environment is ideal for boarders to socialise, work and have fun. This pastoral care is further underpinned by exemplary medical care delivered by qualified nurses should boarders fall ill or require medical support.
Boarding at Clayesmore is about forging strong friendships, taking responsibility, accepting challenges and becoming independent. Boarders leave the school with a good set of values and the foundations of confidence that will last a lifetime.
Leading the way
Launched in September 2021 and named after the school’s founder, LEX is an exciting new initiative carefully designed to ensure that by the time they leave, all our students have acquired the skills, knowledge and passions that will enable them to live rich and fulfilling lives. By restructuring the academic programme throughout the working week, Saturdays provide opportunities across several key ‘pillars’ (The Great Outdoors, Arts, Creativity and Culture, Service and Leadership, Enterprise and Employability and Wellbeing) which will challenge and extend pupils as well as exposing them to new ways of being, thinking and doing.
This unique and comprehensive personal development programme includes trips, lectures, expeditions and specialist coaching with a view to getting our pupils out of the classroom and preparing them for the challenges and possibilities of the real world! LEX runs for 16 compulsory Saturdays across the year and consists of core modules encompassing the strands outlined above. The remaining ‘FLEX’ Saturdays (around three per term) provide opportunities for students to opt to try new activities in specialist areas that could spark an interest or talent that we hope might then inspire and bring them joy throughout their lives. FLEX Saturdays are optional so also provide students with the choice to enjoy family time or to pursue other interests outside of school on those days should they wish.
