After professional football for more than 15 years, and playing 308 official matches with 11 clubs, most notably Malaga, Spain and Marseille, France, in which he scored 58 goals, and was crowned with two continental titles, the former Spanish striker Sergio Contreras, known as “Cookie”, is facing a claim from the public prosecutor to imprison him for 16 years. years old, for allegedly leading a criminal organization specialized in purchasing large quantities of drugs, which were later transported in trucks to European countries.
The trial is scheduled to start tomorrow (Monday) in the Malaga Regional Court, and 17 other people will be present next to the former player, including his romantic partner and the player's brother, according to judicial sources told the Spanish news agency.
In the indictment, the public prosecutor asserts that Koki led the criminal organization, was the person in charge of the operations and gave the necessary instructions regarding the quantities of drugs to be purchased, at what price, where to be transported and what type of vehicle to be hired to transport them.
The drug they bought was usually marijuana, after which they would package it and transfer it to foreign transport companies, who would then transport it in trucks to different European countries.
Thanks to investigations, wiretapping, surveillance and the use of geolocation mechanisms installed in the vehicles under investigation, the police were able to establish the identities of the members of the network and determine the role played by each of them.
The authorities indicate that in addition to Koki, another accused also held a position within the criminal organization, where he was allegedly responsible for providing financial support.
Both Koki and the co-defendant face 16 years in prison and a fine of 150,000 euros.
The rest of the defendants – depending on the degree of involvement of each of them – are accused of committing a crime against public health and possession of weapons, and they face prison sentences ranging from 4 years and six months to one year.
Thanks to wiretapping, it was discovered how Cookie and other members of the organization obtained various shipments of drugs, including one time when they hid marijuana in a shipment of garlic.
Koki was imprisoned for a year and 8 months for this reason, and was temporarily released after paying a bail of 15,000 euros in July 2021.
150 members of the Civil Guard participated in the operation, which took place in Malaga, Seville and Granada, and 11 simultaneous searches were carried out.
According to the Public Prosecutor, the organization has a high economic capacity and logistical structure that allowed it to obtain large quantities of drugs.
In addition to Malaga, Koke also played for other teams, including French Olympique de Marseille, Portuguese Sporting Lisbon, Greek Aris Thessaloniki, American Houston Dynamo and Blooming in the Bolivian city of Santa Cruz.
