The traveler usually feels pressure in the ear that causes him a feeling of discomfort. According to (24ae), the German otolaryngologist, Dr. Bernhard Jung-Holsing, explained that during flights, the feeling of pressure in the ear can be counteracted by simple measures such as chewing and swallowing. As they relieve pressure in the ear, and by resorting to what is known as the “Valsalva maneuver”, in which the mouth is closed, the nose is blocked, and then the exhalation comes out. He added that those who suffer from medical problems in the ear, such as tinnitus, can resort to medical earplugs equipped with a filter against certain frequencies, which helps reduce the intensity of sound on the eardrum.
