Tom Postlewait Death – Cause of Death – On the 16th of November 2021, the news about the unexpected passing of Affiliate Professor Tom Postlewait was publicized in a post made by Eric Colleary. Postlewait lectured at Cornell University, MIT, University of Georgia, Indiana University, and Ohio State University.

According to a release by University of Washington, Postlewait has published Prophet of the New Drama: William Archer and the Ibsen Campaign (Greenwood Press, 1986) and the edited volume of William Archer on Ibsen: The Major Essays, 1889-1919 (Greenwood Press, 1984). He recently published The Cambridge Introduction to Theatre Historiography (Cambridge UP, 2009).

In 2003, Postlewait made more than 50 entries for the Oxford Encyclopedia of Theatre and Performance. His achievements includes; in 2007 he was given the ATHE Editing Award in honor of the Iowa book series. In 2006 he received the ‘Distinguished Professor Award’ from Ohio State University, and in 2009 ASTR honored him with its annual “Distinguished Scholar Award.”

Eric Colleary said in a tweet; “Very sad to hear that Tom Postlewait has died. Despite never getting to take his classes @OSU_TheatreFilm, he mentored me and encouraged me to go to graduate school – even writing me a letter of recommendation to the historiography program @UMTAD, his alma mater.

“His letter undoubtedly helped get me into that program. When I eventually came to @ransomcenter six years ago, he regaled me with stories of his previous research visits, and frequently connected me with visiting researchers.

“Beyond his brilliant written legacy to the field, I’ll especially remember his support and unwavering kindness. Most recently, Dr. Postlewait was on the faculty at @UWDrama. You can read a bit more about his work here…”
