Tonny Bruins Slot is op 73-jarige leeftijd overleden, dat meldt De Telegraaf. De meesterscout van Ajax kampte jaren met gezondheidsproblemen.
Bruins Slot maakte tot vorige week nog wedstrijdanalyses voor Ajax. Zijn laatste analyse maakte hij voor de Champions League-wedstrijd tegen Liverpool. Bruins Slot was korte tijd hoofdtrainer van Ajax, nadat Aad de Mos werd ontslagen. Met de Amsterdammers pakte hij in 1985 de titel.
Daarna was de meesterscout jarenlang assistent-trainer bij Ajax. In de jaren negentig was Bruins Slot jarenlang de rechterhand van Johan Cruijff bij FC Barcelona, waar hij grote successen behaalde. Verder werkte hij onder Ronald Koeman bij Benfica, PSV, Valencia en AZ. Sinds 2011 was Bruins Slot analist bij Ajax.
