A report issued by the Ministry of Transport revealed that the total traffic witnessed by the roads leading to Makkah Al-Mukarramah and Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah and exiting from them during the period between 20 Dhul-Qi’dah to 20 Dhul-Hijjah 1439, which corresponds to the Hajj season, amounted to approximately 6.5 million traffic trips, of which 5.355 million A trip on the roads of Makkah Al-Mukarramah and 1.110 million trips on the roads of Madinah.

The Ministry of Transport aims, by monitoring the daily traffic on the roads of Makkah Al-Mukarramah and Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah during the Hajj season every year, to benefit from defining the plan to expand the construction of a road network according to the traffic density and the movement count within the strategic plans for transportation, in addition to studying and analyzing traffic with the number of accidents. average speeds, benefiting from the outputs received from the security authorities and road security, and setting maintenance priorities for roads with heavy traffic rates, with the aim of providing a land transport system that serves economic development in all regions of the Kingdom in accordance with the Kingdom's Vision 2030.

The report indicated that the Jeddah-Makkah Al-Mukarramah road recorded the highest rate of traffic, as more than 1.7 million traffic trips were monitored, with an average daily rate of approximately 53 thousand trips, while the Qassim-Madinah Al-Munawwarah road (Al-Hanakiyah) recorded the lowest rate of irrigated traffic, by monitoring More than 73,000 traffic trips, with a daily average of more than 2,000 trips.

He explained that the four roads leading to Makkah Al-Mukarramah from Madinah, Jeddah, Taif, and Taif – Al-Sail Al-Kabir witnessed more than three million traffic trips, with an average daily rate of more than 103 thousand trips, while the roads exiting them to each of Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah, Jeddah and Taif – Al-Sail Al-Kabir recorded more than Two million traffic trips, with a daily average of more than 83 thousand traffic trips.

With regard to the roads leading to and leaving Medina, the report showed that more than 473 thousand trips were monitored on the roads leading to it, which include the Makkah-Madinah road, Qassim-Madinah, Qassim-Madinah (Al-Hanakiyah), Tabuk-Madinah, with a daily average of traffic. More than 25,000 trips, while the number of traffic trips on the roads exiting Madinah, which includes the Madinah-Makkah, Madinah-Qassim, and Madinah-Tabuk, amounted to 637,000 trips, with a daily average of more than 22,000 trips.

As for exceeding speeds on the roads leading to Makkah Al-Mukarramah and Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah and exiting from them, the report stated that no speed violations were detected except on the Taif – Al-Sail Al-Kabeer – Makkah Al-Mukarramah road, as the speed of some of the cars passing it exceeded the specified speed by 90 km / h recorded more than 102 km / h, while the other roads did not record any violations.

The report indicated that the average speed of vehicles on the roads ranged between 73.5 km/h on the Madinah-Qassim road and 110.7 km/h on the Taif-Makkah road, pointing out that the design speed of the roads leading to and exit from Makkah and Madinah ranged between 90 km/h and 120 km/h.
