Mesquite officer, suspect in critical condition after a failed traffic stop
A shooting at a grocery store in Albertson, Mesquite left an officer with the Mesquite Police Department hospitalized in critical condition.
According to the department, The officer sustained a gunshot wound to his chest and was transported to Baylor Hospital in Dallas and was listed in a critical condition. The suspect also sustained injuries consistent with gunshot and was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
The incident occurred at about 2:12 p.m. in the 1500 block of South Beltline Road near Cartwright Road. Investigators say the shooting was a result of failed traffic stop attempt. No further information was i immediately given to elaborate this until the department’s media briefing.
A large police presence was seen at the scene and a large part of a nearby parking lot has been blocked off as detectives investigate. This story will be updated.
