Drew Gibbs Ramapo HS Coach Cause of Death – Passed Away: NEW JERSEY – Drew Gibbs, the Ramapo football coach, died on Tuesday morning after undergoing emergency surgery to repair a tear in the main artery leading from the heart. He was 59 years old at the time. His family confirmed his death. Gibbs was a successful coach in New Jersey and his accomplishments at Ramapo HS are legendary.
59-year-old Ramapo football coach Drew Gibbs was rushed to Valley Hospital in Ridgewood after experiencing chest pains during a practice on Monday. The tear was discovered using a computed tomography (CT) scan. In 21 seasons, Gibbs led Ramapo to seven sectional titles, an unrivalled level of success in New Jersey. He was the former president of the NJFCA. He was a Ramapo coach for 21 years.
On and off the field, he was a leading voice for New Jersey football. Gibbs was named State Coach of the Year by NJ.com following his team’s second consecutive 13-0 season in 2019. Gibbs left a long-lasting legacy on this school and has impacted so many lives. John Baiata wrote on Twitter, “Had the privilege the last few years of seeing the wonderful example Coach Drew Gibbs set not just for @RamapoFootball but for everyone he interacted with. The only thing bigger than the loss for his family, friends, colleagues & community is his outsized legacy. #RIP Coach.”
