What Does Land Excision Mean? 1

To a lot of people, the title of a land called excision is quite new because most are used to C of O. Even Gazette is new to a lot of us. On this page, I will be explaining what the land title named Excision means.

According to 1979 land use act, every land belongs to government. No land is free until the government frees up the land. Any land that the government hasn’t freed up is considered to be under acquisition while the land the government frees up is said to be excised.

Excision therefore means legally freeing up a portion of land by state or federal government to indigenous settlers (villagers) through gazette. It is not advised to invest in any land that its excision is still in process. Government can seize any land that doesn’t have excision at anytime without compensating settlers. It doesn’t matter if you bought the land from a chief or the king in your locality.
