What success indicator factors come into consideration in determining a people’s level of developement? When can you justifiably describe a country and its people as a “developing” or “developed” nation?
One area I think is the socio political administration over the decades. From the events and conditions since we attained “political independence” 62 long years ago where can u honestly place our country and people? What problems existed before or after 1960 that we have solved in the society since then? What problems can we justifiably accuse the colonial masters of deliberately creating for us,and what have we honestly done collectively to solve those problems for purpose of developing? Was it the white people that planted in us individual and collective ethnic distrust and hatred that led to the ravaging political thurggery and instability? If u say they did it to us when we were illiterates, what did we do since we attained good education?
On the economy what has been our overall achievement? Are we proudly better than we were in the 60s when our national problem was mainly how to spend the money we had and were getting from all corners. We wasted trillions of dollars into the oceans paying demurage for hundreds of cement loaded ships that stayed on our waters for years. We remained a consuming nation ever since and no industries to produce anything.Even the industries left by the white people went comatose after they left.
In religion what have achieved as a nation? Over 95 percent of the successive populations of the country over the decades have been christians and moslems who travel in millions to thier declared “holy lands” every year to pray against “satan” yet there is no spirituality in thier lives.Instead of religion which is centered on God to bring people together to build a beautifull world according to God’s will has divided the people completely. Looking at all these factors can you sincerely put our nigeria into the group of “developing nations”?I dont think so yet.Discipline of the mind and body is the measure and foundation of growth.
