On the day that we celebrate our Kings, sadly we lost one of our Queens. It is with great sadness that I announce that my Aunt Windy Ford has transitioned to undoubtably a much better place. Windy passed away peacefully on Father’s Day surrounded by family after putting up a tremendous fight. I am deeply heartbroken and unaccustomed to this feeling having not suffered a lost of a close family member in nearly 30 years. I loved my Aunt, she was amazing to me and we were very very close. Windy had a hand in raising me, feeding me, defending me, loving me and protecting me time and time again. She supported me in everything I did especially all of my basketball endeavours often watching me play, driving me or allowing me to use her car to drive myself. Windy always visited me when we lived in Philadelphia and stayed in touch when she wasn’t there. She was very proud of me as a father and a husband and always reminded me of that. I have so many memories of Windy and her loss is truly truly hard to process.
My condolences to all of our family, especially the Ford and Gough family, and to my brothers Rich Ford and Duran Simmonds. Windy loved you two the most and I am very sorry for your loss. They always say time heals all wounds but I am still hurting from the loss of my grandmother almost 30 years ago so I’m sure it’ll take another 30 plus to ease the pain of losing Windy. I am eternally grateful for having had you in my life when I did because your presence was truly a blessing. I love you and will always love you Aunt Windy.
