Tension continues to escalate in the occupied territories, due to irresponsible Israeli actions, especially the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque, beating and arresting worshipers, preventing many from entering Al-Aqsa Mosque, and depriving those who entered of i'tikaaf. These unjustified attacks exacerbate tension not only in the occupied territories, but also in the region and the world, despite the understandings on calm that were reached at the recent Aqaba meeting, and despite the Egyptian efforts aimed at calm. The problem is that the Israeli right-wing government does not deal solely in terms of Palestinian action and reaction, but rather shows keenness to change the status of Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque, and to unleash the hands of settlers to terrorize Palestinian towns and cities. It is clear that the Palestinians will not remain silent, especially over the attacks on Al-Aqsa Mosque (the first two qiblahs). This clearly indicates that the Israeli right will not give any room for the two-state solution, or to resort to international legitimacy decisions related to ending the Israeli occupation. This requires escalating calls to the international community to intensify its interventions in order to force Israel to abide by the UN resolutions, and to implement the Arab peace initiative that was accepted by a previous Israeli government.
