A huge fire broke out in a storage facility, which led to the leakage of hydrogen sulfide, indicating the possibility of chemicals escalating with the smoke, according to what the German city of Hamburg announced today (Sunday), warning residents of the possible presence of toxic substances in the air after the fire. The police have launched an investigation into the fire to find out its causes. A police spokesman said that about 140 people had been evacuated and the severity of the situation could not be determined, adding that a cloud of smoke was moving towards the city centre.
According to the German NDR channel, based in Hamburg, the fire started at 4:30 am – local time – at a truck stop, and the emitted material is hydrogen sulfur.
According to preliminary reports of explosions at the scene, which is not far from the city center, noting that the emergency authorities confirmed that the fire is very dangerous for the residents. Video clips circulated on social media showed thick black smoke covering the area intensely since the dawn hours of today, while the flames were burning heavily in the place.
