Today (Monday), the head of the United Nations Integrated Transitional Assistance Mission in Sudan, UNITAMS, Volker Peretz, accused the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces of only partially committing to stopping the fighting for humanitarian purposes yesterday, expressing his deep disappointment.
The mission said in a statement that the UN Special Representative for Sudan expressed his deep disappointment that the cessation of hostilities for humanitarian purposes was only partially adhered to, noting that the clashes intensified this morning.
Peretz called on all parties to respect their international obligations, including ensuring the protection of civilians, stressing that he will remain engaged with Sudanese, regional and international partners to work towards a cessation of hostilities.
Yesterday, the UNITAMS mission confirmed that the army commander, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, and the commander of the Rapid Support Forces, Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, agreed to abide by a temporary halt to the fighting for humanitarian purposes for a period of three hours.
Shooting and explosions continue in Khartoum for the third day in a row, amid mutual accusations and the death of about 100 civilians as a result of the conflict between the army and the Rapid Support Forces.
