Thirty-five people have been killed and 16 others injured after the roof of a terraced well collapsed in a city in central India, a local government official said.
Officials said the incident occurred while pilgrims gathered inside a temple in the city of Indore to celebrate the Hindu festival of Ram Navami on Thursday.
"We rescued 18 people, 35 dead and 16 injured," a senior local government official told Reuters.
Local media reported that at least 75 military personnel and rescue teams worked throughout the day to clear the rubble, using ropes and ladders to pull those who fell into the well.
