Today (Sunday), the President of the Presidential Leadership Council, Dr. Rashad Muhammad Al-Alimi, affirmed the commitment of the Presidential Council and the government to work to release all detainees, both male and female, including Major General Faisal Rajab and Muhammad Qahtan, who are covered by the UN Security Council resolution.

Al-Alimi said: “The past three days were happy days for the Yemeni people everywhere with the end of the holy month, and the advent of Eid Al-Fitr, as hundreds of families met with their loved ones, hoping that this step would represent a glimmer of hope on the path to achieving a comprehensive and just peace and the future that Our people deserve it.” He praised the efforts of the government team, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United Nations, and the International Committee of the Red Cross, which worked together to create the joy of releasing hundreds of detainees based on the results of the recent meetings with the Houthi militia in Switzerland.

It is noteworthy that the release process led to the release of 890 detainees from both sides, including the former Minister of Defense, Major General Mahmoud Al-Subaihi, and Major General Nasser Mansour Hadi, who are included in the Security Council’s decision, the four journalists unjustly sentenced to death, the sons and relatives of former Vice President Ali Mohsen Al-Ahmar, and the son and brother of a member of the Presidential Leadership Council, Tariq. Saleh, and four bodies, via flights led by the International Committee of the Red Cross between six airports in Yemen and Saudi Arabia.
