While the Egyptian Foreign Ministry called for an immediate cessation of military operations, Egyptian media outlets revealed, today (Sunday), an initiative put forward by Cairo in coordination with the African Union, consisting of seven items.

The sources described the initiative as decisive steps to resolve the Sudanese crisis, focusing on an immediate ceasefire, withdrawing military forces from the streets and returning to barracks, calling for the formation of an Arab-African committee to communicate with the Sudanese parties, forming a Sudanese military committee, meeting under international and UN auspices, and removing sticking points within a time frame. The initiative also stresses the need to communicate with the Sudanese parties to hold a meeting in a neutral country, which leads to reaching a written agreement to prevent the recurrence of confrontations in Sudan, and to set a timetable for unifying the security and military institutions.

And the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement: “The Arab Republic of Egypt calls on the parties to the ongoing conflict in Sudan, in light of the continuation of military operations and the possibilities of escalation, to immediately stop military operations to spare the blood of the Sudanese people and to give priority to the language of dialogue in order to resolve differences, in order to preserve the safety and stability of the country.” And protecting the capabilities of the Sudanese people and the aspirations of their glorious revolution.

Egypt deeply regretted the casualties and injuries among civilians and military personnel as a result of the ongoing military confrontations, stressing that it will spare no effort in undertaking the necessary efforts, in cooperation with friendly and brotherly countries, in order to defuse the current crisis.

Egypt stressed the need for any external party not to exploit the current developments in Sudan by carrying out actions that fuel the intensity of the conflict or aim at undermining its territorial integrity, in a way that affects the security, stability and safety of the Sudanese people.
