The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, expressed deep concern and annoyance about the current combat operations between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces in the capital, Khartoum, and other areas.

In a statement today (Saturday), Aboul Gheit affirmed the responsibility of the warring parties to preserve the security and safety of Sudanese civilians in the fighting areas and throughout the country, calling for the necessity of an immediate ceasefire and an immediate end to bloodshed.

The Secretary-General of the Arab League indicated the willingness of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States to intervene with those parties to achieve this.

The Arab Parliament also expressed its concern about the current developments in Sudan. He called on all Sudanese parties to exercise maximum restraint and an immediate cease-fire, in order to protect the lives of the Sudanese people and preserve the capabilities of the state, calling on all parties to bear in mind the supreme interests of the Sudanese people, and to work on everything that preserves the security and stability of Sudan.
