During the first quarter of this year 2023 AD, the General Authority for Audiovisual Media monitored more than 4,000 media violations, of which 15% were monitored through public cooperation through the available communication channels.
The reports varied between violations of the electronic publishing of media content, sports fanaticism, and the practice of media work without a license, in addition to non-compliance with the controls for importing and distributing media content, and unauthorized receivers.
Accordingly, the authority issued more than 1,700 summons requests for violators to verify the violation, while referring more than 950 violations for issuance of decisions in them by the authority, or referring them for presentation before the committees to review violations of the provisions of the Publications and Publication Law and the Audiovisual Media System.
The issued decisions varied between issuing warnings, financial violations, suspending and canceling media licenses, publishing apologies on the media, temporarily suspending violators from appearing in the media, and confiscating violating media materials, while the authority will announce the pending cases in a timely manner.
The media systems guarantee the right of the violator to object to the issued decisions within the specified legal periods.
The authority called on everyone to report media violations by entering the link (perform.gcam.gov.sa), or through the “Tawakulna Services” application.
It is noteworthy that the General Commission for Audiovisual Media plays its role in organizing and developing media content for the media sector, within a framework that guarantees a clear methodology for all stakeholders, including beneficiaries, facilities and workers in the field, in accordance with the media policy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
