Today (Wednesday) the Iranian embassy in Saudi Arabia reopened its doors for the first time in seven years, under an agreement that provides for the restoration of relations with Riyadh.

And private sources reported: The heavy gates of the Iranian embassy compound in Riyadh were open while a team was inspecting its buildings, and a white truck was seen arriving at the gate. This came hours after the Iranian Foreign Ministry announced that a technical delegation had arrived in the Kingdom.

Today, the Iranian delegation in Riyadh is making arrangements to open the embassies of Saudi Arabia and Iran in Riyadh and Tehran, and the consulates of the two countries in Jeddah and Mashhad, and the resumption of flights and the facilitation of visas.

"The Iranian delegation will take the required measures in Riyadh and Jeddah to resume the activities of the embassy and the consulate general," Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said in a statement.

The official IRNA news agency said the Iranian delegation arrived in Riyadh today to reopen the embassy and consulate in line with the recent agreement between the two countries.

This is the first official visit by Iranian officials to Saudi Arabia since the visit of officials of the Iranian Hajj Agency to the Kingdom in December 2019.

The Iranian visit comes after the visit of a similar Saudi delegation to Tehran (Saturday) to discuss mechanisms for reopening the Kingdom's representations in Iran, and after the meeting of the foreign ministers of the two countries, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, with his counterpart, Hussein Amir Abdullahian, in Beijing last Thursday, to complete the agreement to restore relations brokered by China.
