The struggle of traditional stone-built houses appears before visitors to the historic Taif region. And the cement buildings that seemed to stretch their necks high to the sky.

The Heritage Authority finally restored hope to stop the cement encroachment in it, after announcing the registration of 41 heritage and urban sites in the governorate, including the historical area and inside it a number of old popular houses that still preserve elements of the ancient urban heritage, such as the house of Shuqeir and Al-Halwani, and one of the old cafes inside the market, in addition to some mosques.

The Heritage Authority’s registration plates came on those old buildings as an incentive for it to stop the concrete expansion, and to inform visitors and owners of the importance of preserving the heritage elements from demolition and disappearance, and holding as much as possible with what remains, and that replacing them with new ones does not preserve the history or identity of places that they are proud of.

A number of those interested pointed out the need for the region to be revived with cultural and historical activities to root this great legacy in the souls, as is similarly happening in historical Jeddah!

It is noteworthy that the historian of Taif, Issa Al-Qasir, in a previous statement to “Okaz” in the historical region, indicated that the missing landmarks of the historical region reach 70% under the title “The historical Taif is searching for its identity.”
