The Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources established controls for indexing, classifying and coding national and imported products and services.
The draft controls for indexing, classification, and coding of national and imported products and services aims to govern the indexing, classification, and coding work at the national level, clarify the roles and responsibilities of each party, and achieve the ministry’s goals in its initiatives in the National Industries Development and Logistics Program (NDLP), the national strategy for localization, and increasing the transparency of supply and demand for services and products. Providing studies, statistics and indicators that support decision-making and establishing a digital database for the national industry at the National Center for Industrial and Mining Information, and linking all information and data for goods – imported and locally manufactured – and related data by activating the protection tools available at any of the government agencies or state-owned companies and accelerating and sustaining Indexing, classification and coding operations, and providing quality and added value to beneficiaries.
The controls revealed that the National Center for Industrial and Mining Information in the Ministry made an inventory of national products and services and what is imported from them to the Kingdom, collected the necessary data, estimated the volumes of supply and future demand, and standardized the indexing, classification and coding of products and services based on technical specifications, according to the office systems and the systems used globally, in order to link them with suppliers. And local service providers and contribute to the localization of what is imported from them to raise the proportion of local content
The controls obligated the establishment of the Saudi Classification and Coding Office, and the office works to identify, approve, harmonize, and link the indexing, classification, and coding systems for products, services, industrial facilities, and mining facilities, standardize the terms and symbols used in the classification systems, develop work regulations for them, and supervise their application in all government and private agencies, and government companies. The office supports suppliers and service providers to index, classify and coding their products and services and ensure that there is no repetition or duplication during the indexing, classification and coding work. Regulatory agencies licensed to suppliers or service providers with the information they need about products and services to enable them to draw up policies and regulations that achieve their objectives. The office also cooperates with similar agencies, organizations and centers at the national, regional and international levels in the fields of indexing, classification, coding and representation of the Kingdom in the relevant committees.
Indexing, classification and coding
The Saudi Classification and Coding Office is responsible for spreading awareness of the importance of cataloging, classification and coding, holding seminars and conferences, and preparing and publishing specialized research and publications in the field of cataloging, classification and coding.
The National Center for Industrial and Mining Information lists national products and services and what is imported from them to the Kingdom, collects the necessary data, estimates the volume of supply and future demand, and unifies the indexing, classification and coding of products and services based on technical specifications, according to the office’s systems and the systems used globally, in order to link them with local suppliers and service providers. And contribute to the localization of what is imported from it to raise the percentage of local content
The center works in cooperation with government agencies and government companies to link the platform of the National Register of Products and Services, procurement platforms and electronic systems for catering in government agencies and government companies to provide them with indexing, classification and coding data for available goods and services and to obtain data on the volume of demand for them.
