After a 3-day visit to China, French President Emmanuel Macron, on the plane back to Paris, called on Europe not to become dependent on the United States of America. And he considered, in an interview with a number of journalists, today (Sunday), that Europe should reduce its association with the United States, and avoid a possible confrontation with China over Taiwan. Macron warned that the greatest danger facing Europe is getting involved in unrelated crises, according to Politico magazine. He stressed that European countries must resist the pressures that seek to turn them into American vassals.
He asked, "Is it in our interest to accelerate a crisis over Taiwan?" He called on the Europeans to answer this question, warning that the Europeans would turn into followers of US policy in this file.
He said that EU countries should reduce their dependence on the US dollar extraterritorially. He reaffirmed the theory of "strategic autonomy" for Europe, which is supposed to be led by France, to become a "third great power".
Macron made the pledge at the end of the visit, alongside his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping in a joint declaration
(Friday), working together to “support all efforts aimed at restoring peace to Ukraine” facing the Russian invasion, but the text did not mention Russia, nor did it include a condemnation of the invasion of Ukraine, nor a call for the withdrawal of Russian forces.
