The spokesman for the political process in Sudan, Khaled Omar Youssef, accused the "defunct regime" of igniting the current war between the army and the Rapid Support Forces, warning that he wanted it to continue. He said in statements he posted on Twitter today (Saturday): “The army and the Rapid Support Forces did not want this war, but rather the defunct regime wanted it and wanted it to continue and fuel its fire.”
He stated that the participants in the political process are against the war, and want a unified army through a peaceful solution that begins with adherence to the declared armistice, reaching a permanent and comprehensive ceasefire, and returning to the path of a political solution.
The Forces for Freedom and Change in Sudan had called on the international community to impose sanctions on those who ignited the war, participated in it, and refused to stop it.
