Syria and Tunisia announced in a joint statement today (Wednesday) the reopening of the Syrian embassy in Tunisia and the appointment of an ambassador to Damascus during the next few years. A joint statement stated that this step came "in response to the initiative of Tunisian President Kais Saied to appoint an ambassador to the Syrian Arab Republic," pointing to the approval of the Damascus government for this appointment.

The statement added, “In the interest of both sides to restore the Syrian-Tunisian relations to their normal course, consultation and coordination between the foreign ministers of the two countries continues, in order to consecrate the long-standing fraternal ties that unite Syria and Tunisia, and uphold the values of solidarity and synergy between them, and for the good and interest of their peoples.”

The Tunisian presidency had announced that President Kais Saied had instructed Foreign Minister Nabil Ammar to initiate procedures for appointing an ambassador for his country in Damascus. Last month, the Tunisian president considered that there is no justification for not having an ambassador for Tunisia in Syria and an ambassador for Damascus in Tunisia.
