Crown Prince, Prime Minister and Chairman of the Council of Economic and Development Affairs, Prince Muhammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, announced (Thursday) the launch of four special economic zones in strategic locations in Riyadh, Jazan, Ras Al-Khair, and King Abdullah Economic City, north of Jeddah, in a step that reflects his keenness to develop and diversify The Saudi economy and the improvement of the investment environment, in a way that enhances the Kingdom’s position as a leading global investment destination under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz.
The launch of an economic city for Jizan comes within the framework of the Crown Prince's vision to bring about comprehensive and sustainable development in all regions of the Kingdom by maximizing the utilization of the comparative advantages of the Jizan region, in addition to raising the quality of life and upgrading basic services and infrastructure in all fields.
A number of the people of Jazan region expressed their happiness with this qualitative step, noting that this reflects the Crown Prince's keenness to achieve inclusiveness in development and develop the investment environment so that the Jazan region becomes attractive for investment.
The Jazan Special Economic Zone is located next to mining mines and mineral resources, and close to the third largest seaport in Saudi Arabia, to constitute an attractive location for mining and heavy industries, and the geographical location of Jazan, which overlooks the trade routes between east and west, north and south, provides an opportunity for companies looking to expand in Africa.
The southwest region of Jazan is distinguished by its fertile lands suitable for food production, which provide great potential for manufacturing, processing and distributing food products to meet the growing regional demand and meet the challenges of food security throughout the region.
The Jazan region abounds with many economic advantages in the logistical, agricultural, and heritage sectors. It is also characterized by its environmental and climatic diversity, and it is the main gateway to the Farasan Islands.
