Today (Saturday), the Egyptian Embassy in Khartoum called on its citizens residing in Sudan to exercise maximum caution, in light of the deteriorating security situation in the country, against the background of the tensions the country has been witnessing since this morning.
In a statement, the embassy warned its citizens not to approach places of tension, to reduce unnecessary movements, and to stay at home until the situation stabilizes. In the same context, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement: “Egypt is following with great concern the developments of the situation in Sudan, following the ongoing clashes there.” Calling on all Sudanese parties to exercise maximum restraint in order to protect the lives and capabilities of the brotherly Sudanese people, and uphold the supreme interests of the homeland. 72 hours until we are informed of developments in the situation in Sudan. EgyptAir said in a statement: “This matter came in light of the information we received about the existence of disturbances in the security situation in the State of Sudan, and accordingly we announce a temporary cessation of work with Sudan.” Its customers need to review their reservations to and from Khartoum airport. In a related context, sources within EgyptAir revealed that it is likely to postpone the facilitation of planes to Sudan for a period of 72 hours, following the ongoing clashes there. The capital, Khartoum, is witnessing violent clashes between the two sides, and international media reported that the vicinity of The Marawi military air base witnesses explosions and smoke billowing from inside, in addition to clashes between the two parties with heavy weapons and cannons.
