Today (Sunday), the European Union Mission to Yemen called on the Yemeni parties, especially the Houthi militia, to avoid harmful actions and to engage constructively with the United Nations envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, in order to reach a broad and prolonged truce.

The Union Mission said in a statement seen by “Okaz” and published on its website on the occasion of the one-year anniversary of the armistice brokered by the United Nations: The armistice provided a rare sense of hope, and had a very positive impact on the lives of many Yemenis, with a significant decrease in civilian casualties. regular flights from Sanaa and fuel shipments through Hodeidah ports. "These elements continue to make a positive difference, showing the benefits that peace can bring," she added.

The mission affirmed its unwavering support for the peace efforts led by the United Nations in Yemen.

The UN envoy announced on April 2 last year a truce for a period of two months, which was renewed for another four months, which ended on the second of last October, due to the failure of the Yemeni parties to reach an agreement to renew it as a permanent truce, in addition to the Houthi's refusal to implement the terms of the truce during the six months.

The statement of the European Union mission came hours after the UN envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, announced that the armistice is still in place to a large extent and many of its provisions have been implemented so far, explaining that the armistice is to enhance the opportunity to launch an inclusive political process aimed at ending the conflict in a comprehensive and sustainable manner.
